Since we all have a different idea of what “comfortable” is, creating a list of the most comfortable underwear for women is a bit of a challenge!
One thing we do know is that many women do not want to purchase 10 different brands to find out which ones work. That would get way too expensive!
Simplify your search by referring to our awesome list of the most comfortable panties in every style and material.
We have narrowed down the options to include best of the best, so compare, contrast, and then decide which ones match your comfort level and budget.

Are the More Expensive Pairs Worth It?
If you usually focus more on the price rather than the quality when it comes to underwear shopping, then you might be wondering if those more expensive pairs are worth it.
The answer is yes! They absolutely are.
When you find well-made panties that have been properly sewn and the material is durable, they will last so much longer than the cheaper ones.
You ultimately have to decide if you want to change underwear more frequently or if you’d like to purchase higher quality pieces that will last longer. Considering that this is an item you wear daily and is something that gets washed frequently, we would say that it’s better to invest more initially so you can save in the long run.
It’s All About Finding the Right Size
So many people buy underwear based on the cute patterns and fabrics that the manufacturer uses. You may be drawn to the sexy lace trim on a certain pair, or you just like how it feels on your skin, and you have to have it.
The biggest mistake women make, however, is buying the wrong size for their figures!
Have you ever measured yourself? If not, get out the measuring tape and jot down your waist and hip measurements.
Even the most comfortable pair of panties in the world that everyone is raving about won’t feel good on your body if it is too large or too small. A few simple measurements can help you achieve ultimate underwear comfort, so, as we say, “Measure twice, buy once!”
Selecting a Style That Defines “Comfort” for You
You have plenty of style options when it comes to underwear, and since we don’t know which one you feel comfortable in, we’ll give you a brief overview of each type in case you’d like to try something new.
Thong | Hipster | Boy Shorts | Bikini |

- Thong – Many of you find thongs to be some of the most comfortable underwear for women due to the minimal amount material. The cut is high on the leg, and the back piece usually falls between the buttocks (but that depends on the thong because some have wider straps on the back while others are strings).
These are most comfortable to wear when you have tight-fitting clothing on (leggings, pencil skirts, tight jeans, etc.) and the rise varies.
- Hipster – If your idea of comfort is a pair of underwear that sits down lower on the torso, then hipsters are a great match for you.
They’re more “square” in shape; a hybrid of the boy short and the bikini. They offer you full coverage on the buttocks and the panel on the front is wider than that of a bikini panty, so you get more coverage on the torso without having them rise so high on the abdomen.
- Boy Shorts – Some find boy shorts to be the most comfortable things on earth while others can’t stand them. Have you ever tried a pair?
If you have slim legs, then the boy shorts with shorter legs will probably feel good on you. If you have fuller thighs, the shorter pairs can dig into your skin. Longer leg cuffs will eliminate the problem. The Calvin Klein boy shorts in our table have shorter legs, but they do have another pair of boy shorts with longer legs that sit down further on the thigh – the ID Cotton Trunk Panty.
- Bikini – The bikini cut rises high up on the thigh and hip, with full coverage of the buttocks. These are great for everyday use and probably some of the most popular women’s underwear out there, so when it comes to finding a comfortable pair, look for quality stitching and high-quality material to make your purchase worthwhile.
- Brief – Briefs have a bad reputation as being “granny panties,” but they are surprisingly comfortable and offer fuller coverage. Say goodbye to that muffin top and hello to your curves!
For certain outfits, this additional coverage can be a good thing, and when you find a cute pair like the Warner’s No Pinching No Problems Brief Panty, you’ll feel like you’re wearing a vintage 50s swimsuit bottom rather than panties.
- Seamless – We recommend seamless underwear for any of you who tend to suffer from dryness or with sensitive skin. The seams – especially when they’re trimmed lace, are extremely irritating, but with seamless underwear, you won’t have the rubbing and chaffing.
They’re also great when you want to avoid the seams showing through.
- French Cut – These panties are a mixture of the bikini and the brief panties. The waistline is higher just like brief panties, and the cut is high and curved just like bikinis.
These are very comfortable on fuller figures since they are roomy without being baggy.
14 Most Comfortable Underwear for Women Reviewed
1. Vanity Fair Women’s Illumination String Bikini Panty

Number of Panties: 1
The Illumination Bikini from Vanity Fair has received rave reviews across the board, and we wholeheartedly agree with all the hype: they are amazing.
Thanks to the stretchy material, the panties are flexible and hug your curves without suffocating them. On each side of the underwear, there are two stretchy strings that don’t dig into your hips, and the material is so soft. It’s not thin, but it’s not thick and bulky, either. They’ve used a high-quality material on these panties, and the satin trim along the hems feels so nice on your skin.
We would recommend these for everyday use. They don’t ride up, and they actually stay in place all day long. No shifting, just comfortable coverage.
They color and pattern selection is great, and they come in a cotton version for those of you who have sensitive skin!
2. Calvin Klein Women’s Modern Cotton Thong Panty

Number of Panties: 1
Calvin may design some expensive underwear, but after years of wearing low-quality panties and undergarments, you find that spending the money on them is worth it once you slip them on.
If thongs feel most comfortable on your figure, then you’ll love the cut and material used on this panty. It has a wide elastic band that helps distribute pressure more evenly over your skin (thinner strings usually dig), and the cotton is soft and durable. These won’t be wearing out anytime soon!
String thongs can be annoying to some, but these have a wider strap that many find to be extremely comfortable.
Looking for something that won’t show the lines but that feels amazing on your body? You just found it.
The matching bra is also a huge hit and great for lounging or when you just don’t want an underwire digging into your skin.
3. Kalon Women’s Hipster Brief

Number of Panties: 6
Kalon paid attention to the little details when designing these hipster panties and we were happy that they came in a pack of six!
You’ll notice that the side of the underwear has no seam; it is just one continuous piece of fabric and fits your body like a second layer of skin.
If you order the right size, you shouldn’t have an issue with these riding up. They seem to be true to size for most who wear them, but be sure to take your measurements so that you avoid any loose material. If you order a size too large, they will ride up, so just double check the sizing to avoid the problem.
While they fit and feel great for everyday use, we wouldn’t recommend them for working out since the material isn’t breathable (nylon never is). They do, however, work well for moms post-baby who are trying to find something that offers coverage without feeling like briefs.
4. Jockey Women’s Underwear Elance French Cut

Number of Panties: 3
Any of you in need of some decent plus size underwear that feels comfortable and natural on your curves? Jockey has you covered!
We love that these are 100% cotton and so soft to the touch. They also covered the elastic with the cotton, so you don’t have to feel it scratching on your skin. It’s not cheap material that will wear out in a few months; it will last, and you don’t have to worry about hand washing it. Just remember that cotton tends to shrink in the wash, so they might be a bit snug for the first few hours until you stretch them back out again.
These provide fuller coverage and have a high rise in the waist, so if this is new to you, it might take some getting used to.
Jockey also offers a Classic French Cut style (this is Elance French Cut) that is a little more form fitting, so if the Elance here is too roomy for you, check out the Classics!
5. Fruit of the Loom Beyond Soft Bikini Panties

Number of Panties: 6
You can’t have a list of the most comfortable underwear for women without a few pairs from Fruit of the Loom!
These are some of our favorite budget-friendly panties, and the fit is comfortable for everyday use. Their size range is great, and they don’t ride up throughout the day.
At these prices, we have to remind you that the quality is not going to be the same as Jockey or Calvin Klein, and you’ll notice this on the microfiber band at the top of panties and around the leg openings. It will be one of the first things to show wear and tear with regular use and washing.
They may lack in the quality department, but they sure are comfortable to wear, and that is what you’re looking for!
6. Bali Women’s Skimp Skamp Brief Panty

Number of Panties: 1
Comfortable, durable briefs that you can trust: Bali’s Skimp Skamps are a favorite in the brief family, and once you try them, you’ll see why.
These panties are made with durable materials and the color selection is huge. We love that they put the seam on the back of these panties rather than on the side because it gives you a seamless feel and you won’t have to deal with any bulging side seams.
Wear these under skirts, dresses or with high waist pants to experience ultimate comfort and coverage.
We realize that not everyone is a fan of this style of underwear, but if you are and you’re looking for a quality pair, Bali is the way to go. They have had loyal customers for decades who refuse to change brands, and that says a lot about a company since it shows that they are consistent.
7. Maidenform Womens Dream Boyshort Panty

Number of Panties: 1
Moving on from bikinis and briefs, we have the Dream Boy Shorts from Maidenform.
The stitching and the seam placement on these boy shorts is great since it almost feels like you’re wearing a seamless pair of underwear. The back panel also has seams that provide a bit of lift for your rear, which is always a welcome feature for this area of the body!
These particular boy short panties would work great on slimmer figures since they have a lower rise and shorter leg cuffs. As we mentioned earlier, the shorter leg cuffs can end up riding up and digging into the skin if you have fuller thighs, which results in discomfort and a lot of adjusting throughout the day.
We noticed that the material varies from color to color, so if you’re particular about fabrics, just make sure you double check before purchasing.
8. Warner’s Women’s No Pinching Brief Panty

Number of Panties: 1
Warner’s briefs are awesome if you’re looking for a little more tummy control. While we do love Bali’s briefs, they have more of a natural fit while these are some of the most comfortable underwear for women who want to keep abundant curves in check.
Just as the name suggests, these will help prevent your pants and jeans from pinching you throughout the day, and you can say goodbye to the muffin top.
One thing we liked better about the Bali briefs was that they put the seam at the back. These have the seam on each side, but since they are relatively flat, we wouldn’t knock off any points for it.
Overall, these seem to be better for fuller figures. Medium is the smallest size they offer, which is equivalent to a size 6, but seems a bit too roomy if you don’t have any curves to fill them out.
9. Hanky Panky Women’s Signature Lace Thong Panty

Number of Panties: 1
We did manage to find a great pair of lace panties to add to the list because usually, lace is scratchy and very uncomfortable to wear.
Hanky Panky’s thong features a wide, stretchy band of lace on each side and high-cut leg openings that allow you to wear these higher up on the hips.
The only issue we have with these is that they are “one size fits all,” which is a little difficult to pull off when you’re dealing with underwear.
Hanky Panky says that these work best on hips measuring between 36 inches to 45 inches, so if you don’t fall in that size range, then these aren’t the right choice for you. Those who do will find that they don’t disappoint in the comfort department but just remember that this material is meant to be hand washed. If you throw it in the washing machine every time, don’t expect it to last very long.
10. Calvin Klein Modern Cotton Boyshort Panty

Number of Panties: 1
Calvin made our list again with another great pair of underwear, but this time it was the boy shorts to win us over.
Just like the Bali briefs, these feature the seam in the back, thus yielding a “seamless” feel on the sides.
The material is exactly the same as the other pair we looked at so there are no doubts about the quality, and for the most part, they’re comfortable.
The only thing we can say is that based on the shape and the cut, you might have a bit of backside “fall out” from the bottom if you behind is full and curvy. Naturally, when your cheeks are hanging out, this isn’t the most comfortable position, so these aren’t the best choice for plus size figures.
For the rest of you, we would say that these are a great alternative to the thong (number 2 in our list) if you like Calvin Klein and you just wanted a bit more coverage.
11. Jockey Women’s No Panty Line Bikini

Number of Panties: 1
The medium coverage provided by this bikini from Jockey was pleasantly comfortable to wear, and the flat seams were barely noticeable as we wore them.
They’re stretchy, smooth and don’t ride up throughout the day.
We like Jockey as a brand, and we did like these panties, but we’re a bit concerned about the overall durability due to the stitching on the seams and the edges. We’ve worn underwear like this before with the narrow stitching on the edge and if you stretch it too far, it can unravel and then leave the raw edge hanging out, which will cause further unraveling.
Our only tip is to be gentle with these and hand wash them. They’re quite comfortable and come highly recommended!
12. Maidenform Dream Cotton with Lace Boy Short

Number of Panties: 1
These boy shorts from Maidenform have a comfortable lace band on the top (similar to that of the Hanky Panky thong we looked at earlier) that sits higher up on the side of the hips to prevent them from slipping down under your clothing.
The leg openings weren’t constricting, and the lace band is gentle on your waist.
While they do get tons of points for being comfortable, we just aren’t a fan of the lace since it is so delicate. Fraying will occur unless you hand wash them, and since many of us throw them in the wash, they just don’t last as long.
If you care for them properly, they will make you look and feel great since it’s not easy to find a pair of cute boy shorts that make you feel sexy!
13. Balanced Tech Women’s Seamless Thong Panties

Number of Panties: 3
We love these thongs for workouts and to wear under active clothing like yoga pants. They’re comfortable, they don’t show the lines, and the material doesn’t chaff your skin.
With that being said, some of you might want to pull the sides of the things up higher on the hips, and if you do this, it will probably end up feeling a little tight. These are most comfortable if you wear them on the sides of the hips.
In terms of fabric and construction, we were pleased with the seams, the edges and the wide elastic band on the top that made them feel like the Calvin Klein thong we loved so much.
This is a great deal for three thongs!
14. Hanes Women’s Stretch Hipster Panties

Number of Panties: 3
Hanes is similar in quality to Fruit of the Loom and both make affordable underwear. We liked their hipster panties and the fact that they are made with a mixture of cotton and Spandex.
The waistband got extra points since, unlike the Fruit of the Loom panties with the exposed microfiber, this was covered in cotton and a bit more durable; this also made them softer on the skin.
We liked that they had fuller coverage on the buttocks (even though this isn’t typical of hipsters) and while the side seams were a bit bulky, we still found them to be comfortable for everyday use.
We’ll give them an A- for comfort and a B- for durability.
