What Design Features Should You Look For?
When you are looking at a lot of range bags that are similarly made, it is important to break your search down to a few key factors.
In this section, we’ll go over the main features you should pay attention to so you can find one that matches your idea of the best range bag.
- Material – The material that your bag is made with mostly a personal preference. Most bags are made out of either canvas, leather, or polyester. Each of these materials will work well as long as the bag is constructed sturdily.
- Durability – Regardless of the material you choose, you should always look for a bag that won’t fall apart on you at the drop of a hat. A good range bag has lots of different compartments, which makes them perfect for storage. However, all of the chambers in the world won’t do you any good if the zippers or pouches fail because they were cheaply made.
- Ease of Use – You should also look for a bag that gives you quick and easy access to all of your gear, which will allow you more time utilizing your equipment rather than rummage for it in a disorganized bag.
- Size – This is once again, a personal preference. In our experience, you should always try to pick a bag that is a bit bigger than you anticipate needing. That way, you have some room to grow or to throw in some extra gear, like a maintenance kit for emergencies.
- Customizable Compartments – Some days you’ll be taking just one firearm to the range, but then others you might be taking your whole arsenal. Being able to move compartments around to create larger or smaller spaces is extremely advantageous in these types of situations.
- Number of Compartments – Again, it is best to go a bit bigger than you feel like you might need. That will allow you to keep using whichever bag you decide upon for an extended period, even after you have purchased new gear or firearms.
- Comfort – Whether you choose a backpack or messenger bag style of the range bag, you should always take into account how it will feel when you are carrying it. Once it is loaded up with all of your gear, the bag is going to have a hefty weight to it, and you don’t want to have a tough time carrying it because of uncomfortable straps.
Extra Features That You May Want to Check Out
Depending upon your specific needs, these additional features might be worth looking into as well.
- Waterproof – Since the gear you will be toting around in your bag represents a significant investment, you may wish to look into a bag that has a waterproof or water resistant exterior. This waterproofing will protect your firearms from rusting.
- Hard/Soft Exterior – You have two different options for the exterior of your case. You can either go with a soft or hard surface. A soft bag will be easier to transport and more comfortable to carry, but may not protect your gear as well as a hard cased bag. While a hard case will offer extra protection, some users might find it a bit clunky and hard to transport.
Security
The gear and firearms you are transporting in your bag cost you a pretty penny to get, and you don’t want it to be stolen. You should look for a bag that can help to keep your firearms from ending up in the wrong hands.
